After watching a video on Matt Granger’s YouTube channel I was motivated to try and create a photo book. Thankfully through Matt’s relationship I obtained a voucher for a significant discount from Saal Digital, a maker of high quality photo books, which allowed me to give it a try without a large financial risk.
I decided to assemble a collection of pictures from the model shoots I’ve done over the last few years. The process of putting the book together requires downloading software then creating the book offline. It took me a while to select which pictures I wanted for this first book, and to come up with a flow that I liked. Since I had printed a few dozen of these pictures fairly recently I had a good start, but as I got going I also ended up having to do some finish editing on a bunch of other pictures. In the end I ended up with a book 64 pages long containing about 70 pictures.
I decided to go with one of the Professional line books that had an acrylic cover. I was curious to see the quality of the final book as well as the quality of the photo reproduction. The book was produced and delivered amazingly quickly after I submitted it. It turned out stunning. The book is very high quality and the reproduction of the photographs is beautiful with great colors. The “lay-flat” style enabled putting in some pictures that extended across the center fold of the book. I was really impressed with the result.
I liked this first book so much I immediately put together another book of some travel photos from a few years back, and created a book from their standard line. I will definitely be making more books from my model photography in the future.
